General Information
After 10 years in the South African gospel industry, having released two chart topping albums, coming in 2nd place in the Crescendo Competition (Jak de Priester took 1st place), being nominated for a Geraas award for Gospel Album of the Year 2002, finishing in the Top Ten of the Zing competition and being voted as one of the Top Ten New Songwriters by Huisgenoot/Tempo in 2010. Singer/songwriter Liezel Marshall teamed up with guitarist/rock producer Dewald Pretorius who has worked with and recorded some of South Africa's top acts (Cutting Jade, Southern Gypsey Queens, Black Cat Bones, The Metanoya Rockonfusion, Jak de Priester, Juanita du Plessis, Mel Botes and Kurt Darren to name a few), and formed The Something Project, an acoustic duo playing original and cover music at various venues throughout the Gauteng, Limpopo and North West provinces.

After three months of gigging up to 4 times a week, and shaping their original songs into a more alternative/hard rock feel, Nelis du Plessis (Campus of Performing Arts Drum Lecturer), and Gerry du Plessis joined the band on drums and bass respectively and a harder edge, modern rock Simplehuman was formed. In a short time period, Simplehuman changed from the opening/supporting act to the headlining act, packing venues like Cafe Barcelona and Schivas Rock in Pretoria. As well as playing main slots at various fesitvals in Gauteng and the North West with crowds up to 4000 people! After months of constant gigging, playing up to 5 times a week, Simplehuman decided to take a break and start working on their debut album, but due to personal reasons, both Nelis and Gerry left the band, and was quickly replaced by Andre Byleveld (bass) and Steph Nortje (drums). It was then decided to change the band name from Simplehuman to The Liezel Marshall Band.
